Our Hotel History
We’re proud of our community and committed to doing our part to make and keep Pismo Beach great.
Since opening more than 60 years ago, we at the SeaCrest OceanFront Hotel® have consistently taken proactive steps to be a leader in our Pismo Beach community. We’re proud of our community and committed to doing our part to make and keep Pismo Beach great.
Supporting the environment is one of our core values. So today, we’re excited to announce we are taking major strides toward efficient and sustainable operations to minimize the harm and maximize the protection of our precious environmental resources. When you come to the SeaCrest for some well-deserved R&R, we want you to know your values can come with you in full force. Our hotel is proud to be keeping pace with one of the most important initiatives we all share at this precious time – sustainability.
Green Initiatives: What we are Currently doing
Solar Power Energy
We are proud to be at the forefront of eco-conscious hospitality. Our installation of 298 solar panels ensures an annual production of 211,501kWh of clean energy, resulting in a remarkable 43% reduction in our energy consumption. Our commitment to sustainability remains a top priority, and we thank you for supporting our environmentally responsible initiatives.
Green Linen Program
This program is another easy way to make a big difference. Look for the signs as a reminder to save water and energy by reusing linens more than one time. Towel on bar = re-use; towel on floor = replace. We and the environment thank you!
Laundry Room Program
Behind-the-scenes changes have been implemented too. You may not see them, but we have new energy-efficient and water-wise machines for all our laundry.
Clean Light Bulbs
PG&E approves! The hotel now has PG&E-approved energy-efficient LED lighting throughout all rooms and buildings. The room lighting, landscaping, terrace lighting, and monument sign lighting have all been replaced with energy-efficient LED bulbs. In addition, the terrace and monument sign lighting is now on timers to conserve energy during daylight.
Low Flow Fixtures
Water conservation efforts include new low-flow faucets on all sinks and shower heads. You can enjoy the same great bath or shower, now with even more peace of mind knowing it’s easier on the environment.
Conservation in Landscaping
Irrigation and drip systems have been implemented to provide the beautiful resort surroundings with less water usage.
Real Water Glasses
Reusable water glasses now can be found in all rooms. Choose which one is yours and remember where you put it. With every sip you can be part of the solution too.
Green Cleaning
We now use water-wise cleaning techniques consistent with the community service district guidelines. The SeaCrest has been part of this community for a long time, and we intend to continue to serve you with the best experience and highest quality of care. This includes taking care of our planet. Celebrate with us by coming and enjoying your own Green Experience, where you can enjoy peace of mind along with your tranquil getaway. Go Green!
No Styrofoam
You will no longer find any Styrofoam products in our breakfast room

History of the Seacrest
Seacrest and Pismo Beach: Over 60 Years Together
2022 marked a monumental year for our Pismo Beach hotel. As we reflect back on over 60 years of service and hospitality, we’d like to share with you the SeaCrest story… All those years ago, the SeaCrest Motel was known as “A bit of Hawaii on the California Coast,” and the tagline stuck. Resting on a sun-kissed crescent on the bluffs facing the Pacific Ocean, the property and its hotel have been a cherished part of Pismo Beach for more than 50 years. Through name changes, new buildings, and renovations, what would become today’s Pismo Beach SeaCrest OceanFront Hotel® has maintained its elemental beauty and charm, captured since the beginning.
Humble Beginnings
The SeaCrest Motel was built in the early 1960s; the original owner was Henry Meyers Sr. The SeaCrest was truly the first Pismo Beach motel, setting the tone and style for other area motels, hotels and resorts to come. As palm trees jutted through the breezeway dividing the crescent shaped building, the hotel’s inception was humble but elegant.
The Salad Days
The scenery was the star, the swooping lawns led to the pool, shuffleboard courts, and the grand Pacific Ocean, with the iconic Pismo Pier jutting out nearby in the background. A local pastor, Barney Northcote, purchased the hotel in the 1970s. Mr. Northcote envisioned more of a complete destination for families to experience the Central Coast. He broke ground on the two new towers in 1980, and completed them in 1982, along with the north and south spas and other cosmetic upgrades. Mr. Northcote presided over a busy, happy time at the hotel, promoting an atmosphere that attracted mostly families and religious groups, nearly all of whom had been coming since the hotel was founded. After he passed away, his daughter Nancy Northcote guided the resort with that “original 1960s Pismo Beach style” through busier times, with ever more groups and families making SeaCrest their own tradition.
Serious Improvements
The Northcote Family sold the hotel to the current owners who changed the name to SeaCrest Resort and put the entire property under renovation. The décor morphed to a retro-modern style, and many luxurious appointments and amenities were added, such as a microwave, refrigerator, Keurig Coffee maker, iPod docking station, flat-panel HDTV with DirectTV and Wi-Fi access, just to name a few. The whole crescent received a well-planned upgrade resulting in a transformation that has brought great joy to our long-time guests and those experiencing the hotel for the first time.
Today and Tomorrow
If you’ve been visiting us long enough you’ll recognize the friendly faces of people who’ve been working here for years.
You’ll also see the new faces of local industry leaders, bright hospitality stars, and others who are here to make your visit comfortable and memorable. In our continual quest for improvement, there is surely much more to add to the SeaCrest story, as we enter the next phase of our historic journey.
